Calvary Church’s “Open Doors” Campaign Approaches Historic Finish

Vision for Life: “Open Doors”  Capital Campaign

“…and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”  Luke 10:11

“We are on the homestretch”

The finishing line is within sight. Eleven hundred families that have made pledges of $3.6 million to our “Open Doors” capital campaign can see the finish line. But, we are not quite across the line, yet. We are at the homestretch and need you to continue this journey with us! Our “Open Doors” campaign, which ends December 31, 2014, has a pledge balance of $1.26 million outstanding. Now is the time to finish strong. Now is the time to fulfill our pledge commitments.  Also, in addition to this $3.6 million pledge amount, 51 families have given $4.3 million in cash, specifically to help fund our Christian Education Center!  This $4.3 million in cash has allowed us to start our Christian Education Center.

Now is the time to give thanks to God for the “open doors” He has provided through our “Open Doors” campaign:

Calvary East Lake Campus

  • Calvary East Lake Campus– our 10-acre campus, which opened Easter Sunday 2012, is averaging over 600 on campus every Sunday. A significant ministry outreach to East Lake High School, development of numerous community groups, bible studies and an ever growing preschool and children’s ministries are “fruits” of this open door.  Come visit us at 1190 East Lake Road, Tarpon Springs, FL.

Calvary Student Ministry Center

  • Calvary Student Ministry Center– our ministry center for Calvary’s middle & high school students. We purchased the 4-acre property and 17,500 square foot facility at 150 S. McMullen Booth RD and converted this 4-acre, 17,500 square foot building into “the place to be” for students to connect with their friends and experience a DYMANIC spiritual environment.

  • Global Missions– Calvary has invested in the Dominican Republic, partnering with Orphan’s Heart to build a church/community center and homes. In Thailand, funding a church plant and a new building. In Guatemala, investing in church planting and Christian education. Also, Calvary’s adoption fund continues to help families who accept God’s call to adopt orphans.

  • Calvary Christian High School– our dream of a new facility that will expand the capacity for our school and create additional ministry space at Calvary Church is happening right before our eyes! Through early and generous support we were able to break ground on this 28,000 square foot facility in August 2014. Eleven additional classrooms, a large band room, a choir room, new restrooms, and additional facility offices will allow our high school to grow to almost 600 students! As a “bonus”, 8,000 square feet of this space is a church lobby expansion that will bring us a DYNAMIC resource center, new café space and plenty of seating in this area.  Thank you to the 51 families who have made additional designated gifts of $4.3 million to our high school expansion.  This $4.3 million is in addition to the $3.6 million pledged to the overall campaign!  How’s that for DYNAMIC life!?

So, please continue to pray as we approach the $8 million amount.  AMAZING, why yes!  But our God is an AMAZING God.  Thank you Lord for blessing Calvary with a historic “Open Doors” campaign!

Building (Relationships) @ Calvary

At Calvary we are all about “Building Relationships”, whether that be through a Life Class, a Community Group, volunteering in one of our many ministry areas (hint, we need you) or you just have lots of friends and neighbors you invite to Calvary, we LOVE people!  And people LOVE Calvary!  Consider this past Easter, almost 7,000 folks worshiped with us at one of our campuses!  It’s obvious Calvary folks really love to invite, to bring, and talk to other’s about their church!  Contemplate this fact- Calvary Christian High School is currently at 380 students and will be at or above 420 students this coming year!  Space is at a premium.  Actually, it’s way past a premium, more like “super premium”!

So, to remedy the “people love Calvary so much syndrome”, we are adding space to our campus with 2 construction projects.  Both projects fully funded by you!

1) Additional Parking- we are adding 120 new parking spaces just north of our baseball field.  Paved driveways will also provide a new entry/exit into our Student Center.

2) Expanding Calvary Christian High with approximately 20,000 square feet of fully equipped classroom space.  This expansion includes 11 classrooms, one band room, a choir room, teacher’s offices and planning areas.  A premier facility for a superior school!

Rendering of CCHS Expansion

This expansion will also include a new 7,000 square foot expansion to Calvary Church’s main lobby space.  Our new atrium-style lobby space will include a DYNAMIC Resource Center, a cafe/coffee bar and plenty of comfortable seating for you and your friends!

So, please pardon the interruption, excuse the mess for a while!  Construction begins NOW on the parking, followed by the CCHS expansion in August 2014.

We’ll keep you updated, you keep praying!

2013 Year In Review-Calvary Church

“Statistics should tell a story”- Margaret Thatcher

Oh, what a stories Calvary‘s statistics tell!  Compelling stories with drama, action, hope and prayer.  It is a story that reveals a Godly vision through a Lead Pastor who knows how to lead and inspire!  The story reveals the obedience and the faithfulness of His people, demonstrating unwavering trust as they invest in God’s Kingdom.  It’s a continuing story that proves God still works miracles every day.

Bill Hybels, Lead Pastor at Willow Creek Church in Chicago says, “The local Church is the hope of the world.”  I couldn’t agree more.  Looking at the “stories in statistics” below, you would have to agree that the Calvary family has HUGE hope and faith in God’s Kingdom through this local church named Calvary.

Students Dedicate New Student Ministry Center

This was a special Wednesday evening.

It was an evening that led us around a new corner, onto a new road “for life’s journey” in our Student Ministry.  This roadway will challenge our students (and all of us) to keep our “spiritual engines” tuned at all times.  For there will be tremendous “traffic” on this roadway.  Traffic of the lost, traffic from the “left-lane goose-neckers”, traffic from the barricades and construction zones of life, and traffic from those that simply cannot read a roadmap. Questions will be asked, intentions will be questioned.  Jesus is the answer, period.  That’s the only answer that matters.  That’s the “why” of this journey, that’s the purpose for positioning our Student Ministry in this new Center.  Think of it as a Servant Center, instead of your local service center.  As Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 9:19, “For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them.”  Our students dedicated themselves last night to be “servants to all”, so they may bring more to Jesus!

Scores of students pray with Pastor Willy as they dedicate this Student Center and their lives as servants for Christ

In just a few short weeks Calvary’s new Student Ministry Center will be open for “service” with students ready to drive with you along the roadway “for life’s journey”.

Middle school/high school student have questions, need help?  Talk to one of our students servants, I guarantee the’ll have “the answer” for you!

Calvary’s Student Ministry Center- Update

Calvary’s Student Ministry Center Interior Renovations

As October flys by, we eagerly await the opening of our “new” Student Ministry Center located just south of our main campus at 150 S. McMullen Booth Road.  We anticipate a grand opening event in November, so keep watching for the date!

I just wanted to say “thank you” to the entire staff at Calvary for their support and prayers during this renovation process! From the Student Pastors to Calvary’s great Facilities Staff, you all are the BEST!  I appreciate your great spirit of cooperation and your “get-it-done” attitude as we worked together through this construction.

And THANK YOU Pastor Willy for your uncommon leadership which energizes and ignites us all. We’re all ready and able to “build relationships” wherever we go…

Calvary’s Student Ministry Center- UPDATE

Renovations are in ‘High-gear” to complete our new CBC – STUDENT ACTIVITIES CENTER by late October!  We are working at a frantic pace installing new HVAC system, electrical, fire safety, lighting, flooring, a new stage area, sound booth and the needed audio and video to complete a venue that will allow Calvary’s Student Ministry to continue to grow, and more importantly have a place they can call their permanent home.  Gone will be the days of setting-up and breaking-down the Anderson Center for every Student event!

Thanks for your vision and faithfulness

Because of your generosity through our “Open Doors” vision campaign, we purchased this 4-acre property (December 2012) at 150 S. McMullen Booth Road for $2.25M and are now spending approximately $600,000 in renovation dollars.  We are transforming this former office building into a state-of-the-art Student Ministry venue.  Initial remodeling of this 17,500 sq. ft. building will renovate approximately 8,000 sq. ft. into a worship and gathering space. In the future we will complete phase 2, which will remodel the other half of this facility into Student GroupLife space for Community and Life classes to take place.  Of the $2.85M in costs for this project, we have used “Open Doors” cash of $1.65M to pay down this debt and pay for all renovations to a current amount owed of $1.20M. Even better, thanks to your continued faithfulness in supporting our vision campaign, we will be able to payoff the remaining balance by the end of 2014!

I hope you can share in the excitement our entire staff and leadership has for the future of our Student Ministry at Calvary. Working in concert with our own Calvary Christian High School, our new East Lake campus, that strategically sits in front of East Lake High School, our Student Ministry Team and prayer, we certainly are positioned for some exciting times ahead! My prayer is that we energize and engage every student in the Tampa Bay area to love Jesus! Are you with me?
